What is the Trails Network?

The Trails Network is a place to keep your stuff! More specifically, it’s a set of applications that help you manage your stuff, and a subscription-based service that allows you to store your stuff online so you can get to it from wherever you are.

The Trails Network is current comprised of:

  • Memex Trails - A desktop application for Macintosh computers
  • My Trails Network - A web browser-based interface for data stored on the Trails Network
  • The Trails Network website - This website, and a web-based forum for Trails Network users

What is Memex Trails?

Memex Trails is a desktop application for Macintosh computers. It allows you to organise your stuff using an infinite timeline. Visually, the you organise your stuff on giant grid in which columns on the grid represent points in time.

Trails can contain many different kinds of data.You can create notes, events inside the Memex Trails application, but you can also drag in documents from other applications.

Memex Trails saves its data in .trail documents. Each trail represents a single timeline. You can save trails to your computer’s hard disk, or sync them with the Trails Network so that they’re available from any computer.

How do Memex Trails and the Trails Network relate to each other?

Memex Trails can store trails and their associated files on the Trails Network. However, you don’t need a Trails Network account to use Memex Trails, it can be used simply to keep track of the information on your own computer.

What is the Trails Network beta?

‘Beta’ is a phase during software development when most of your features are in place and complete, but you still have a few kinks to iron out. We’ve opened up our beta to our users because we want to make our products the best they can be, and to do that we need a lot more people testing them.

If you register for the Trails Network beta, you may well find problems with the Trails Network or Memex Trails. Every problem you find is good news for us, if you tell us about the problem, because that’s one more problem we can solve before the final release! When will Memex Trails and the Trails Network be out of beta?

We don’t have a precise date in mind for launch yet, our intention is to measure the feedback from the beta programme and make a decision on a launch schedule at a later date.
